Mid-Wilshire is a district in the City of Los Angeles, California. It is part of the Wilshire region. It mostly encompasses the area bounded by La Cienega Boulevard to the west, Melrose Avenue to the north, Hoover Street to the east and the Santa Monica Freeway to the south, although some neighborhoods in this perimeter overlap with parts of Mid-City, Mid-City West, and the West Adams district. It derives its name from Wilshire Boulevard, the primary east-west thoroughfare through the area. The service area of the Wilshire Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is congruent to the portions of Mid-Wilshire within the City of Los Angeles. A popular nickname among locals for this district is Midtown.
The Miracle Mile is an area in the Mid-Wilshire region of Los Angeles, California, consisting of a roughly one-mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues, and the surrounding neighborhoods (including Park La Brea). It is not to be confused with the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Other cities have given the name of Miracle Mile to linear shopping districts, including Tucson, Arizona; Coral Gables, Florida; Elmira, New York; Las Vegas, Nevada, Fontana, California and Stockton, California.
The Miracle Mile District is bordered by the Fairfax District on the north, Hancock Park on the northeast, Mid-City on the southeast, West Pico on the south, and Carthay on the southwest. The district's boundaries are roughly 3rd Street on the north, Highland Avenue on the east, San Vicente Boulevard on the south, and Fairfax Avenue on the west. Major thoroughfares include Wilshire and Olympic Boulevards, La Brea and Fairfax Avenues, and 6th Street. The district's ZIP codes are 90036 and parts of 90019.
